Types Of Extruded Acrylic Sheets (PMMA) sheet
What is an extruded acrylic sheet?
An extruded acrylic sheet is manufactured by forcing molten PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) through a die to form flat sheets of uniform thickness. Because extrusion produces continuous sheets, extruded acrylic tends to be more economical and consistent in thickness than cast acrylic. You will see it labeled as acrylic extruded clear sheet, clear extruded acrylic, or extruded plexiglass in product listings.
Key quick facts:
👉 Material: PMMA (acrylic).
👉 Common brand / product names: extruded PMMA, extruded acrylic, flat extruded acrylic sheet.
👉 Typical uses: signage, fabrication, laser-cut parts, general glazing, point-of-sale displays
How extruded acrylic is made — why production method matters
Extrusion process: Continuous sheets produced by forcing melted PMMA through a slot die and cooling on rolls. This results in consistent thickness across long lengths and lower cost for standard panels.
Cast process (contrast): Liquid monomer is poured into molds and polymerized — produces superior optical clarity and better polishability but at higher cost and with thickness variation.
Why it matters: For repeatable cuts, laser cutting and CNC routing of thin-to-medium thicknesses, extruded acrylic is often preferred due to its dimensional consistency and lower price.
